Resumen
Introducción: El neumotórax traumático se define como la presencia de aire en el espacio pleural como consecuencia de un traumatismo torácico.
Objetivo: Determinar la tasa de egreso hospitalario (TEH) por neumotórax traumático en Chile entre 2020 y 2023.
Materiales y Métodos: Estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal. Se recopilaron datos del Departamento de Estadísticas e Información de Salud (DEIS) y del Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas (INE) para calcular la TEH según sexo, edad y promedio de estadía hospitalaria. El análisis fue realizado mediante Microsoft Excel. No se requirió evaluación ética.
Resultados: Se analizaron 4.520 casos, con una TEH acumulada de 6,43 por cada 100.000 habitantes. Se observó un aumento progresivo en las tasas, alcanzando el valor más alto en 2023. Predominaron los hombres y personas entre 20 y 44 años, seguidos por mayores de 80. La estadía hospitalaria promedio fue de 4,76 días, siendo ligeramente mayor en mujeres.
Discusión: El aumento de la TEH podría indicar mayor exposición al trauma, especialmente en hombres jóvenes. La duración estable de hospitalización sugiere un estándar de cuidado, aunque el leve aumento en mujeres podría relacionarse con mayor riesgo de complicaciones o menor tolerancia a procedimientos invasivos. Conclusión: Los hombres y adultos jóvenes presentan las mayores tasas de egreso por neumotórax traumático. Se recomienda fortalecer medidas preventivas y mejorar el diagnóstico precoz.
